Splash of colours from the Blue City

While digging through my archive of ever growing digital images, I realized the need for cataloging and organizing this growing archive.

What also came out of this ongoing exercise is the sheer amount of shoots I have done in Jodhpur city, but not shared some of the interesting moods from these shoots. Going forward, I decided that this blog should serve as the anchor for displaying and sharing some of those moments and give the readers a brief history behind the location and shot.

About the Shot

It was shot in the morning hours after me & my wife had climbed down from the magnificent fort overseeing the old city area. We decided to move around the narrow alleys of the city which is a famous haunt for photographers & tourists. Although, I have been visiting this city for 13 years now, this part of the city has always slipped through.

This time we were there at the right time when the sunlight is not too bright and the colours basking in the fresh soft light of the morning really show their contrasts well.

Technical information: Shot handheld from a Canon 5D MkII with Tamron 70-300mm lens at F 2.8

Sunset over Jodhpur

The city of Jodhpur, also referred to as the "Sun City" or the "Blue City" has around 350 days of sunny days. The sunrise & sunset are mesmerizing and there are different view points to capture them in their full glory during any part of the year. During the winter, the fog and the dust in the air makes it a very different experience.

This view was shot from the Ratanada Ganesh Temple which overlooks a large part of the old city with the Majestic Mehrangarh Fort in the background.

Dreaming Big. . . .Flying High

Children having fun in the cooler weather in Jodhpur. They were flying kites which is a popular sport. The weather was encouraging and I was able to spot them through the kites flying around.

The Saviour of Rathore Dynasty - A Symbol of courage

Statue of Durgadas Rathore at Jodhpur.

Durgadas was a Suryavanshi Rajput, belonging to the Karnot branch of the Rathore clan. He was the son of Askaran Rathore, a Rajput minister of Maharaja Jaswant Singh, the ruler of Mawar.

Time never stands still. Not even at a traffic light.

Time never stands still. Even at a crossing in a photograph.
One of my favorites from the NYC Collection 2008. This is the crossing at the 5th Ave and 58th Street. The stillness of the manual rickshaw and movement of the people provides a unique contrast to the image.

Release the Cork and let the aroma engulf you.

A nice collection of White Chardonnay at the Williamsburg Winery in Williamsburg, Virginia. Virgina has quite a number of vineyards where variety of wines are available for tasting and purchase. The belt across the I-64 has quite a line of them when you are headed south towards Virginia Beach and the other well known trail is on the route towards the famous Luray Caverns.
